Everyone remembers the yellow bike I named amazon prime yes? a 2000 Suzuki SV650S that i brought back from the dead after sitting for 5 or so years.
Got a call from the new owner.
“bike wont start and broke down on me”
turns out he did an oil change (even though i told him i JUST did one before dropping it off) and he only put in a Quart of oil. the bike takes 3.
88K KM. a couple of months of work and restoration, and she dies by the hands of a dumbass who cant use a sight glass :(
*sigh* poor bike

I fear my former RX-8 might suffer the same fate.

How the fuck do you not know how much oil to put in! That’s something that I have confirmed, confirmed again, and re confirmed on every oil change on every engine ever. Lawn mowers included.

How did he not realize that way more came out of the bike than he was putting in?

Did the asshat who bought it try to get his money back from you? I know damn well you won’t give it back, but if he’s that dumb to not put the proper amount of oil in, chances are he’s dumb enough to think he can get his money back. You should offer to buy it back from him and fix it and sell it again.

Japanese bikes tend to have a sight glass down at the bottom of the unit engine/transmission; stand the bike upright and if the level is between two marks you’re good to go.

When I moved from sunny Florida to miserable Oregon, I had to sell my ‘99 Yamaha Waverunner. I put gallons of blood, sweat, and tears into it and it was the nicest old Waverunner around. I had just rebuilt the top end and carbs, had the entire thing gutted to the hull to clean/detail everything... it was nice. I deleted the oil injection and ran premix for reliability. The buyer immediately asked “why is it smoking so much?” after he first fired it upon taking delivery. I don’t ever want to know what happened to it after that.

HOW...how did this happen? Did he not think to look up the amount of oil it took beforehand? 0_o

Damn that sucks to hear. Guy that I sold my SV to already traded it in for a GSX-R less than 2 months of having the SV. Hope he’s still alive, as he didn’t seem like the best or brightest rider.
